It's All Fun & Games Until Two Boys Kiss!
Since I've already outed myself as a dedicated soap watcher on this blog, I feel more than comfortable doing a rant about something soap related today.
First, the bullshittery that ensued on Y&R last week is too good NOT TO SHARE.
The short story is, there is a mentally unstable crackpot on the show named Mary Jane who is 83 kinds of crazy.

Backstory- apparently, she committed caticide (like "homicide" but on a cat) with the real cat she had a few weeks ago and had to "replace" it.
Jesus take the wheel.
Secondly, since this is a major theme in the conversations I have with my parents (yes, Dad is an avid Y&R watcher too!! The whole family is hung up on this shit, yay us!), I sometimes visit a Y&R message board to get some spoilers to share with them.
Anyway, upon my last visit to the board I discovered that finally, Y&R is going to do it's first gay storyline (and gay kiss) in the show's history.
About damn time!
I'm excited but several of the posters don't share my enthusiasm. As matter of fact, there was an astonishing amount of homophobia on display.
Well, maybe it's not so astonishing considering the world is full of ignorant, hateful bastards, but it pissed me off nonetheless.
*I really need to stop taking people's intolerance and stupidity so personally but it's hard!*
One annoying dickass posted: "I cannot believe Y&R is doing this immoral storyline. I have been a loyal viewer for 25 years and if they go through with this, I am done!!!"
Wait a second here...did they just use the word "immoral" in reference to a fucking SOAP OPERA?
Umm breaking news...pretty much every storyline is "immoral" on soaps!
You have spent the last 25 years watching characters drug each other, bust caps in each other, frame each other, hold each other captive and torture each other, commit murder, commit adultery, commit rape, and every other "moral" atrocity under the sun but your self-righteous, moral indignation won't allow you to watch two boys suck face for a hot second?
Wow, people amaze me. No wonder I am a misanthrope love them and their magical ways.

Logically, I know that people are entitled to believe what they want, watch what they want and stop watching for whatever reason comes into their head. But yeah, I agree with you. Those people are really stupid. I'd probably be a conservative if it wasn't for (1) the homophobia and (2) the moral bullshit, of which the comment you show is just a microcosm. If they're okay with watching all the things you mention but two adults engaging in consensual kissing outrages them so much, they need councelling.

The very idea that a dedicated soap fan would get their shorts in a twist over a gay kiss when soaps have always been filled w/ "immoral" behaviors is fucking dumb. If you're a homophobe just say you don't want to see 2 guys kissing, don't hide behind the "morality" defense. All the "immoral" stuff you named that goes down on soaps should have offended this person to stop watching a long ass time ago if they were so moral.
OMG!!! I thought I was the only one completely appalled and disgusted by the forums. I mean its sad and annoying with the whole phyllis vs. sharon shit (team phyllis *grin*). I mean the way the two sides take their beef to unbelievable insane levels of hatred. But the homophobia is completely sickening.
When I first saw the posts I was like, how can these people use the bible to argue that homosexuality is wrong when throughout ALL soap operas there's murder, adultry, lying, stealing, corruption etc etc. But then that's ok? I just didn't get the arguments. But then the arguments began to escalate with folks calling other folks faggots and all kinds of sht and I just got to the point where I had to back out of the forums.
I can barely watch Y&R right now because I think the Adam character's actions against Ashley were completely sickening. I mean get back at your asshole daddy (who I love by the way and wish he would see that Adam is like him only younger!!!) but you ain't got to cause a miscarriage. That just really bothered me.
Anyway, I thought I was the only one really freaked out by the message boards. Glad to know I'm not alone. And yes, Y&R is the only soap I watch and my parents and I used to watch it after dinner every night when I was a teenager.
and by the way...actually the gay folks who watch Y&R should be the ones pissed since isn't this gay story surrounding Adam who is pretty much the most despicable character to date? I mean pretending to be blind and forcing Ashley's crazy ass to have a miscarriage.
Basically it makes gay folks seem like they are insane murderers. I mean think about it. I should be "morally" outraged. *grin*
Lisette-Yeah my biggest problem is the condemnation of homosexuality when all of these other morally egregious things are taking place on a regular basis.

Oh and as far as Adam, good gawd he sickens me. I was so disturbed over what he did...this has got to be the illest shit I have seen on a fucking soap. The way he changed her damn clothes and wiped up the blood. UGH!!! She needs medical attention! My mom told me that when you have a miscarriage that far along you must have a DNC or the fetal remains can infect or possibly kill you if left inside your body! Adam is just fucked. What a vulgar, detestable, depraved human being. I hope Victor skins his ass ALIVE.

I am a Y&R fan, too. I read that they guy who played Adam left the show because he didn't want to kiss another guy. He actually said some shit about being a single dad and he didn't want his kid to see something like that. So they got another actor for the part, who will be doing the gay kissing and all.
I agree that there is much hypocrisy on forums about this. I mean, some of these same people LOVE Sharon, who is knocked up by one of three men, two of who are married to other women. Yet two guys kissing is more immoral than some chick who fucks around a lot sans birth control?
Adam is still a skeeveball, though. I would have preferred for the show to not have this Sharon pregnancy crap, and made Noah gay. Or bring back Jack's son, Kyle, or Olivia's son, Nate, as adults and made one of them gay. Maybe one of them with the Rafe character might have been better.
Christine- That is what I heard too...he left the show because he couldn't kiss a man yet he could participate in a storyline where his character forces a pregnant woman to miscarry a baby she deseprately wanted and THEN help trick her into believing she is still carrying a healthy baby! WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? Why didn't he walk off the show in protest when he read THAT script???

Re: Sharon, hey I've never been knocked up but if being slutty with 3 guys in one month was a crime, I would probably be serving a life sentence right now so I can't judge her without being a hypocrite. ;-) But yes she does get cut a lot of slack even though she has had NUMEROUS extramarital affairs.
That's the main reason why i hate on sharon. She never gets her fair share of the blame. I mean if Phyllis had done exactly what Sharon did then it would be WWIII up in there and Sharon would be the first one talking about what a bad person Phyllis is. Now don't get me wrong Phyllis got problems too (hell, they all do on the soaps) I just got to root for Phyllis cause she does get played alot when its her vs Sharon.
Christine, Hey I got the recent soap opera digest and he says in there that it has nothing to do with being gay he was concerned about the way his character was just going downhill. but hey, you know folks say things one place and say them differently another place. So who knows...its just all sad to me.
While I do think Phyllis is vilified a lot, the bitch deserves it! Sharon has had her slutty extramarital antics over the years but Phyllis is a sabotaging twat and a murderer! Sometimes I think people forget about the horrible shit she has done over the years. She set a fire in that paternity lab she used to work in and killed that Sascha woman who was supposed to be her friend ON PURPOSE, she hit Paul with her car ON PURPOSE and almost killed him, she put a jellyfish or octopus or whatever that was in Christine & Paul's bed while they were on their honeymoon, she faked Danny out with those phony paternity test results, she had an affair with Nick while he was married and nowwww acts like a fucking victim when he cheats on her with his ex, she breaks into the woman's hotel suite, cuts up her clothes, writes dumb shit in lipstick on her mirror, BITCH ARE YOU IN THE 10TH GRADE OR WHAT...ugh I could go on about that devious lunatic ALL DAY! Haha. Can you tell I dislike her immensely?
