Til Death Do You MF'ers Part
About a week ago, I stumbled upon a movement called the 2010 California Marriage Protection Act" and it's coinciding website "Rescue Marriage" whose mission is to "Safeguard marriage from the evils of divorce" and totally outlaw divorce in the state of California.
The site is peppered with such gems as "Jesus loves you if you get divorced - just not as much as before" and "Hell is eternal — just like your marriage was supposed to be".
If you clicked the link and don't get the irony, let me explain. This is a satirical, tongue in cheek response to California's Prop 8 which, according to it's (bigoted) supporters, was a means to "protect marriage".
Now, I don't live in CA but we had a similar measure here in AZ (Prop 102) that I voted against, but much to my chagrin, the shit still passed.
Both were touted as the premier way to "protect marriage".
Protect it from THE GAYS!!!!
Yeah, cause gays are like robbers trying to steal marriage away from righteous straight people who only want to protect it!!!
AHHHH RUN FOR YOUR LIFE MARRIAGE! THE GAYS ARE AFTER YOU!!!
Ahem, sorry. Anyway, the folks at "Rescue Marriage" believe that the best way to "protect marriage" is to ban people from getting divorced!
Brilliant.
What better way to preserve the sanctity of marriage than to make this sacred institution TRULY a permanent one that can't be sullied by divorce?
Because I think we can all say that the most insidious threat to marriage is divorce.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's ever wondered how many gay marriage haters opponents have been divorced right?
Well, I have some info on that. Among the hypocrites are:
Prop 8 supporters like this guy
Other Probable or Confirmed Conservative Gay Marriage Opponents Who Have Divorced
Don't let me forget to mention half of the divorced, separated, or "cheated on their spouse" people in my own family who supported a ban on gay marriage (they will remain nameless), and every other SOB who thinks they have the right to marry and divorce as they please by virtue of being straight- sanctity of marriage be damned.
I'll be watching the progress of this Rescue Marriage proposal very closely and hoping similar movements start popping up around the country in other states where gay marriage has been shot down by voters.
Personally speaking, I can only say that the passage of Prop 8 and Prop 102 here in AZ were devastating to me and I'm a straight woman who despises the idea of marriage in general!
Even though I'm personally anti-marriage, I think that this is a real threat to civil and equal rights in this country. And I feel that now that they've succeeded in "protecting marriage" from the gays, it's high time the rest of us start championing for marriage to be protected from straight people.
If people truly believe gays marrying would taint the institution of marriage, surely they would be willing to protect marriage from all of the other evils that threaten it.
The biggest being DIVORCE.
So to everyone married hetero who wants to "protect marriage" from the gays, all I can say is, regardless of what happens in your marriage, it is just tooooooo sacred of an institution for you to be allowed to just enter and exit as you please. Marriage is intended to be permanent and MUST be protected, so til death do ALL you MF'ers part."
Cheers!

Spot on M!
I love the rescue marriage site and all the funny one-liners. I agree the people who fought hard to protect marriage from gays should now turn their attention to all the straight people who defame it with all their marrying and divorcing whenever the mood strikes. If they don't we will know their support of Prop 9 and other ballot initiatives was based in gay hate and had nothing to do with protecting marriage.
I get so angry when I think about how hard people fought so that gays couldn't marry in CA. I hate that people like the Kardashians can get married after 12 days of dating but a committed, longtime gay couple who have stood by each other for years cannot.
Whoops, meant to type Prop 8!
Don't you know? For every str8 marriage gays ruin by getting married themselves gets us a free Olivia cruise or White Party invitation!
I'm out to ruin every str8 marriage I can!!
Plus I'm doing recruitment...would you like a pamphlet? *lol*
The murder rate will surely increase if those fools have to remain married. I'm all for it, weed out the hypocrites
Kellina- Agreed. Straight people can and DO get married under the most ridiculous, shallow, ill-advised circumstances so how is it that people think it's going to somehow "taint" marriage if same sex couples are able to partake?
Smells like bigotry to me.
Studpoet- HAHAHAA!
Loves it ;-)
Tessa- ROFL the murder rate will increase. I laughed aloud when I read that. Good one! You know you're probably right though...these same people fighting to protect marriage are likely the ones who also want to divorce on demand when they get good and ready. Someone should ask them: "WHAT ABOUT THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE THOUGH????
:-)
